Coach Jim Acker (Anderson Trojans) and Coach Tommy Cox (Bowie Bulldogs) will serve as honorary captains at the Anderson vs. Bowie game on Friday night at House Park, which kicks off at 7:30pm.

Coach Acker was an icon in the field of athletics for four decades in the Austin Independent School District (AISD). He coached at Lamar Middle School and McCallum High School in the 1950’s, 60’s and early 70’s and became the first Head Football Coach of the Anderson Trojans in 1973. Coach Acker led the Trojans from 1973 – 1989.

Coach Tommy Cox was also an icon in the field of athletics in AISD. He was the Head Football Coach at Travis from 1980 – 1987. Coach Cox then moved over to Bowie High School in 1988 and led the Bulldogs until he retired from coaching in 2001. He later went on to become the AISD Athletic Director from 2004 – 2014.

Respect, Honor and Integrity are words that define their coaching legacies during this era in AISD Athletics. Please come out to House Park on Friday night to help celebrate their leadership and service to AISD.
